János Palojtay has been a regular fixture on the concert stage since the age of seventeen. As an active soloist and a devoted chamber musician, his recent highlights include recitals in such prominent venues as Salle Cortot in Paris, Auditorio National in Madrid, Carnegie’s Weill Hall in New York, Herbst Theatre in San Francisco and Teatro Verdi in Trieste.

He has performed with most of the Hungarian symphony orchestras, including the Budapest Philharmonic Society, the Savaria Symphony Orchestra and the Concerto Budapest. On these occasions he had the opportunity to play under the baton of Christopher Hogwood, Oliver von Dohnányi, Gregory Vajda, Gergely Madaras, András Keller and Zsolt Hamar.

His nimble and highly characterized playing caught the attention of Sir András Schiff, who has chosen Palojtay as a soloist in the “Building Bridges” series in 2017/18 with performances throughout Europe. Having graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest in the class of András Kemenes, he was admitted to the prestigious “Konzertexamen” course in Stuttgart, where he worked with Kirill Gerstein. Palojtay’s unique tone was polished in masterclasses with prominent musicians such as Dmitrij Bashkirov, Ferenc Rados, Murray Perahia, Sir András Schiff and Claudio Martínez Mehner, broadening his musical horizons.

As a multifaceted artist, he has studied composition, was the winner of the Béla Bartók Conservatory’s improvisation contest and played keyboards in Iván Fischer’s Budapest Festival Orchestra. Above all, he enjoys chamber music and has participated in festivals such as Encuentro Musica di Santander, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Prussia Cove’s Open Chamber Music and Collegium Musicum of Pommersfelden.

He was the third prize winner at the Paloma O’Shea International Piano Competition in Santander, Spain and second prize winner at the I. International Chopin Competition, Budapest. Furthermore, he is holder of the Gundel Art Prize and the Bíró Sári Memorial Award. Palojtay is a regular guest in concert halls all over Europe, including London, Amsterdam, Rome and Madrid.
