The National Youth Ballet wants to move people
Founded in September 2011 by John Neumeier, the ensemble consists of eight international dance talents with completed professional training between the ages of 18 and 23. The company's goal is to take ballet to new, unusual places and, above all, to inspire young audiences for dance as an art form. To this end, the company, as a small ensemble without a fixed venue, is constantly reinventing dance - in places far removed from any conventional ballet geography. Whether in museums, retirement homes, schools or prisons - the company dances for those who cannot come to the ballet themselves and wants to inspire people of all backgrounds to dance in workshops.
„Lively body language full of passion and magic.”Klaus Albrecht, Neue Ruhr Zeitung
Under the educational and artistic direction of Kevin Haigen, the company honours the past by rehearsing works from ballet history and experiences the present by working with contemporary choreographers of different ages and styles. It also invests in the future of dance through its own creations and the support of young choreographic talent. The company also cooperates with young musicians and dances to compositions created especially for the ensemble as well as arrangements by various composers. Dance, music and singing are equally important arts in the performances of the National Youth Ballet.
The National Youth Ballet is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
